In 2024, Total Taekwondo took a monumental step by opening its first full-time academy in Preston. This dedicated facility was a dream come true, offering us the space and freedom to expand our classes and host events that reflect our passion for the martial art. However, with this leap came numerous challenges that tested our resilience and commitment.
From navigating the logistical demands of a full-time academy to fostering a thriving community, our journey has been transformative. The academy has provided the foundation for innovation in our programs, including the launch of our fight and poomsae classes. These initiatives culminated in the establishment of the Total Taekwondo Fight and Poomsae Team a pivotal milestone that set the tone for an incredible year ahead.
Building the Fight Team: A Journey of Determination
Our fight team has undergone a remarkable transformation. With an Eastern European approach to training, we embraced intense, rigorous classes that pushed both students and coaches to new heights. It was a challenging path, but the results speak for themselves.
In our very first year of competition, the fight team achieved extraordinary success, progressing from zero medals to an impressive haul of 24 golds, 19 silvers, and 9 bronze medals. Among the highlights was our debut on the international stage, with select students competing in Moldova.
Training in Moldova: A Partnership with Dmitruc Club
Our international journey wouldn’t have been the same without the incredible hospitality of Igor and his team at Dmitruc Club in Moldova. Their warm welcome and unwavering support made our training experience truly special. The sessions were not only intense and rewarding but also an opportunity to learn and grow alongside a highly skilled team. We are deeply grateful for their camaraderie and look forward to continuing this enriching partnership. This training has been crucial in changing the way we train back in Englan.
Poomsae Team: A Tradition of Excellence
Our poomsae team has been equally impressive, showcasing the discipline and precision of Total Taekwondo. The dedication of our students and coaches resulted in an incredible 17 golds, 20 silvers, and 20 bronze medals across various competitions and Eddie representing us at the prestigious World Championships in Hong Kong. This success is a testament to the hours of practice and the spirit of excellence that defines our club.
Individual and Team Achievements
This year, our students have reached milestones that extend beyond medals. From earning new belts to being recognised on the GB Elite Team, their growth has been inspiring. Our syllabus has also evolved to match the increasing skills of our members, ensuring that we continue to push boundaries and achieve higher standards.
In total, we’ve celebrated over 1,000 new grades an achievement that highlights the dedication of our students and instructors alike.
Building a Legacy: Collaborations and Guest Instructors
Our journey this year has been enriched by the guidance of several distinguished guest instructors, including Master Howard from Gajok, Karl from Rebal Martial Arts, Lisa from NTC, Grand Master Hudson from Inspire, and Master Jones from Inspire. These sessions brought invaluable experience and fresh perspectives to our students.
We were also privileged to attend sessions at Whiston Taekwondo and Inspire Taekwondo, further strengthening our ties with the wider taekwondo community. These collaborations have been instrumental in building a culture of mutual respect and shared learning.
We also have has the privalage to have Master Rick from Horizon Taekwondo Academy to conduct our preston gradings.
Looking Ahead
As we reflect on our first year as a full-time academy, we are proud of how far we’ve come. The growth in both size and quality of our club is a testament to the hard work and determination of everyone involved.
From challenges to triumphs, 2024 has been a year of transformation and success for Total Taekwondo. As we continue this journey, we are committed to reaching new heights, fostering a community of excellence, and ensuring that our students achieve their full potential.
